Ultra-Tall PSA Nitrogen Plant for UHDE India Ltd., Nashik

Delivered one of the world’s tallest PSA nitrogen towers (1,080 Nm³/Hr) for UHDE India—meeting German engineering standards and pioneering dual-tower gas storage systems with flawless execution and complex logistics.

Client: M/s UHDE India Ltd. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp AG)

Capacity: 1,080 Nm³/Hr PSA Nitrogen Generator (99.999% purity, Dx Model)

Location: Nashik, India

Year of Commissioning: 2006

Overview:

UHDE India Ltd.—a 100% subsidiary of German engineering giant ThyssenKrupp AG—commissioned a PSA Nitrogen system with stringent performance and engineering expectations. The mandate: deliver a 1,080 Nm³/Hr ultra-high purity nitrogen plant using a vertical configuration never attempted before in India. The system would go on to be one of the tallest nitrogen tower installations globally, even today ranking among the top seven tallest in the industry.

Key Challenges:

  • Unprecedented Height: This was the tallest single-tower nitrogen system ever built in India—an engineering first for the domestic industry.
  • Global Engineering Standards: The client demanded adherence to German engineering benchmarks—requiring precision in fabrication, assembly, and quality validation.
  • Complex Fabrication & Transport: Manufacturing the towering structure was itself a feat. Transporting it from Nuberg GPD’s facility to the Nashik site required custom logistics and specialized transport solutions.

Solution & Execution:

Nuberg GPD embraced the challenge by engineering a Dx model PSA plant tailored for vertical scale while ensuring stability, performance, and accessibility. The fabrication teams worked on stringent tolerances and material specifications to meet global benchmarks.

Given the height and dimensions of the towers, standard transport was ruled out. Nuberg onboarded vetted logistics partners with expertise in oversized, critical component handling. Route surveys, transport simulations, and special loading mechanisms ensured smooth and damage-free delivery to site.

At installation, dual-tower and gas storage modules were seamlessly integrated—setting a precedent for future vertical PSA deployments in constrained industrial environments.

Impact:

The nitrogen plant was commissioned successfully and met all client performance standards. More importantly, it positioned Nuberg GPD as a pioneer in large-format single-stage dual tower and gas storage systems. This project didn’t just fulfill a requirement—it set a global benchmark for height and integration in nitrogen plant design, firmly establishing Nuberg’s leadership in complex, custom EPC gas systems.
