Nitrogen forms approximately 90% of the protective atmosphere in the tin bath, mixed with 10% hydrogen. Hydrogen acts as a scavenging agent, maintaining an oxygen-free environment since molten tin is highly sensitive to oxidation at 600°C – protecting the glass ribbon from stains, haze, and tin bloom, and maintaining optical clarity and A-grade yield. Beyond float glass, these systems inert forehearths and annealing lehrs for container and bottle glass, support furnace purging and polishing for tableware and specialty glass, cool bushings for glass fiber and wool production, and protect coating chambers and tempering furnaces for solar and technical glass. Purity runs from 99.9% to 99.999%, delivered through MS and MS-H Model plants.
